MSc Medical Visualisation & Human Anatomy

11 students

The MSc in Medical Visualisation and Human Anatomy is a one-year taught postgraduate programme offered by the School of Simulation and Visualisation at The Glasgow School of Art in collaboration with the Anatomy Facility at the University of Glasgow. The programme, accredited by the Institute of Medical Illustrators, provides a unique opportunity to combine 3D modelling, interactive applications development and in depth study of human anatomy.

In their final research projects, students work across a wide range of life science disciplines, with experts from the College of Medicine, Veterinary and Life Sciences at Glasgow to develop innovative, interactive, and empowering solutions. Research projects often involve using cutting-edge technologies such as volumetric visualisation and high-resolution 3D animations, 3D printing and Extended Reality.

The projects on show in this digital showcase highlight just some of the diverse range of topics explored by students across the programme, and demonstrate the skills and expertise of our amazing students.

A digital illustration of the inner anatomy. The inner anatomy starts at the vaginal entrance, which is the lowest point of the vulva. The vaginal entrance continues in the body as the vagina, before reaching an end point called the cervix. The vaginal entrance continues inside of the body upwards and diagonally towards the back or the buttocks. The cervix acts as a barrier between the vagina and the uterus, in the case of bath water or tampons, for example. The cervix allows sperm carrying spermatozoids to enter the uterus. Beyond the cervix is the Uterus, which is a hollow muscle that plays an important role during pregnancy, which is to carry the infant inside the body until birth. On each side of the uterus are the right and left ovaries.
