Public Privacy

From the emergence of video-based life, to its application in a few fields and now to become a way of entertainment for the masses, it seems to have become a part of ordinary people’s lives in an irreversible way. Then, with that comes the inevitable reduction of privacy in terms of personal space. Just as glass houses were built around the world, it seems that people will adapt to this loss of privacy or trade some privacy for other aspects of the experience, or not. People’s psychological acceptance of the loss of privacy or private space will certainly have an important impact on the design of interior space in the future. Perhaps in a few years, people will become accustomed to performing at home and being watched. This project is to explore the possibility of indoor space being affected by this phenomenon in the future.

I tried to analyze the participants’ choice of their privacy or private space during the videoization life. In my design, I deconstructed and reorganized the functional needs of family space to explore people’s choice of spatial functional requirements in the live streaming environment. I tried to combine the family space with the public sharing space in the mode of live streaming. At the same time, I also referred to the discussion of other designers and artist about the privacy and exibition of interior space to explore the possibility of future family interior space. certainly, my research cannot produce an exact result or a universally applicable design, because my research is my personal opinion and analysis of these phenomena and patterns. My design is just a concept space design with some narrative images, and I will improve and practice it in different ways in the future.

In this project, I am interested in people’s future life in an environment of videoization including live streaming, long video and short video. How the private indoor space are disappeared? How could videoization change people’s life, work and space condition in the future? Could the screen be a part of domestic home, or is the house a terminal to share your life?

Public privacy

In the process of observing the video life, I realized that people, as the subject of sharing, were watched by others, and the indoor space where people were also became a part of the display. This process allows the private space of the individual to become a public space for viewing. This shift from private to public also leads to a shift in the function of the space.
