Build A Growing Team to Do Some Small Urban Farming Actions in Qing Shui Community

The world’s population is expected to increase by 2 billion persons in the next 30 years. And we all need food. But how? How do we feed a growing world without destroying the planet? Agriculture is destroying the planet. It is inefficient, uses a large number of natural resources. 50% of the world’s habitable land is used for agriculture; 70% of the world’s water is used to produce food. And at the other end, it wastes 1/3 of all food, generating 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions. I believe we care about our survival as well as our planet. So how do we feed the world without destroying it?

This project tries to answer the global challenge with a local solution – individuals could build a growing team to do some small urban farming actions in communities. And it’s a commitment not only to urban farming but also to community resilience. Using the Qing Shui community in Chengdu, China as a pilot site, the organiser designed a starter pack for the urban farming Qing Shui team, including four personas(a profile representing a group of people with shared needs or common behavior patterns), five engagement tools used for co-designing, and the whole process of urban farming activities.
