IN THE MOOD FOR SHARING
The one-child family is the main family form in China’s cities and towns. In 1980, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and The State Council proposed that couples in a family should only be allowed to have one child. The one-child policy has exacerbated China’s aging population, according to the Office of the Aging Commission, there were 200 million people over the age of 60 in China in 2013, the number is set to double around 2033, by 2050 more than a third of the country’s population will be an annual population. Therefore, it can be inferred that the period from 2015 to 2050 is a critical period for a large number of parents with an only child in China to enter old age. Many problems followed, such as the financial pressure of being an only child, time coordination problems. More importantly, the uniqueness and irreplaceability of the only child make the only child family particularly vulnerable, their parents face unprecedented risks in their later years, as a result, the pension pressure of the only child is not comparable to that of the children with siblings. In the next 30 years, it will be more and more difficult for only children to support the elderly.
As the parents of only children grow older, problems such as aging and disability continue to appear. Therefore, when talking about the family pension for the only child, it is inevitable to be accompanied by “Where to support? With whom?
