They might become fruitbowls

Is a project by Ralph de Jongh that speaks about failure.
Failing to make a useful object, failing to make a sculpture and failing to stay in the present.
The artist work is always with one foot in the studio and one in the kitchen.

Introduction

The smell of a lemon opens up all your senses. It’s vitamin C and it is a magical medicine. It might cure your flu.
“This might become a fruit bowl” is an uncertain sculpture, it behaves like a painting just hanging around, it can be a bag* without it’s potential content. It’s a proposition for a sculpture with a potential of failing. This sculpture needs some magic, like we all do.

SERVING TRAYS

These works relate to food, serving food, preparing food and creating a feast. To me it felt like dissecting an image, mixing the colours, layering, glazing, applying and constructing. Always with one foot in the kitchen and one in the studio, never really there. (Escapism)

Feed feed feed until it’s ready to be served.

(Big fat tennis ball)

There is a decorator in my tummy, turns out to be a parasite.

These works come from the overlapping idea of bag your authenticity, they might become fruit bowls and watching an episode of “chefs table*” Jeong Kwan a Buddhist monk who is also a chef. Fermentation is a process for slow cooking and preservation. They relate to the body, taking care of the body.

More things it relates to; the ecological art system, where do ideas come from.
Art versus fashion, architecture, food and politics.
Is the art the cherry on the cake?
Thinking about connectivity.

And it’s kind of kinky

Ferment by feeding or feeding off something. There is hierarchy in food

*”Chefs Table” is a show on Netflix.

This work acts like it’s ready to go places, it’s content unsure.

This is a proposition for a bag, painting or a sculpture ready to make it’s final escape.
